CT to FL Day 29
Fernandina Beach, FL Pine Island Anchorage, FL
We left Fernandina Beach Marina late morning at 1100... Lily and Herman needed a bath and they don't like baths underway... GRIN.
Todays plan was to travel about 6 hours to wherever that took us... we plan to stop and visit friends in Palm Coast, FL that is just over 12 hours south for Fernandina Beach... not enough daylight to do 12 hour days and do not like traveling on the ICW at night so we will split it into too relatively short 6 hour days.
After passing through Jacksonville area... our 6 hour day was going to take us to about 12 miles north of Saint Augustine, FL to an anchorage named Pine Island South in Active Captain. When we arrive there were already 4 bother boats anchored here... and two very familiar ones.
We arrived to the our destination for the night Pine Island Anchorage at 1715. Our location for night
N30°03.153',W081°21.755'. We traveled today for 6.25 hours covering 43.0 nautical miles averaging 6.9 knots.
Been two days since we anchored and we find ourselves anchored with the two same boats we were anchored with 2 days ago... BOW-TO_STERN and NORTHERN STAR... first time we anchored with BOW TO STERN was in Carolina Beach, NC... so fun to keep seeing the same boats all headed south. Photo of them anchored behind us and two sailboats behind them.
CT to FL Day 28
Wally's Leg Anchorage, GA to Fernandina Beach, FL
We pulled anchor and underway at 0700... short day to Fernandina Beach.... Finally in Florida and it's still COLD... but not as cold as New England.
We arrived to the our destination for the night Fernandina Harbor Marina at 1330. Our location for night
N30°40.317',W081°27.956'. We traveled today for 6.5 hours covering 42.7 nautical miles averaging 6.6 knots.
CT to FL Day 27
Skidaway Island, SC to Wally's Leg Anchorage, GA
We left Delegal Creek Marina this morning at 0845... even later than yesterday... we' getting lazy the closer we get to Florida.... GRIN.
Was a very windy day with winds 20-25 knots most of the day... no real effect on the sea state in this section of the ICW... any large inlet we crossed were only a bit choppy... but it was cold... luckily we had a lot of sunshine to keep the pilot house warm... like a greenhouse.
One challenging area today... Little Mud River... we arrived at dead low tide... we crept through at 3 to 4 knots and the majority of the time we had the less 5 feet of water... we draft 5 feet... so it's was like sliding across mud bottom... not fun at all but we made it.
We arrived to the our destination for the night north of Brunswick... an anchorage on the McKay River named Wally's Anchorage on Active Captain. We were securely anchored at approximately 1730... Our location for night
N31°15.480',W081°23.965'. We traveled today for 8.75 hours covering 57.9 nautical miles averaging 6.6 knots.
We anchored with two other boats... both of which we have passed or they passed us since Virginia... it's funny how you travel in bunches... even though you may stop for a day or two you end up seeing the other boats again.
